Out and About

There are a myriad of things to see and do within a short distance of the Old Workshop. You can simply walk from the back door into glorious Wealden Countryside. Or you can drive a short distance to visit the South Downs National Park with its dramatic chalk cliffs and undulating landscape. There's a multitude of historic Sussex Villages to explore, many with interesting churches and atmospheric pubs which provide a welcome respite. There are many attractions and activities available in the vicinity. For walkers there are numerous paths through woods to explore and also the Cuckoo Trail which follows the route of the disused railway line between Heathfield and Polegate. The Old Workshop is centrally placed to visit the many golf courses in the County, Dale Hill, Crowborough Beacon and East Sussex National to name a few.

For angling enthusiasts half a mile away is Lakedown Trout Fishery established by Roger Daltery and the nearby Bewl Water also offers the chance to go boating or sailing. The spa town of Tunbridge Wells is 10 miles north with its delightful shopping precinct and the historic Pantiles. County cricket is sometimes played at The Nevill park. The nearest town is 3 miles away at Heathfield where there are a couple of supermarkets and a range of independent shops. The historic village of Mayfield is 5 miles away and is well worth a visit while the coastal town of Eastbourne is just 30 minutes drive away with Hastings and Brighton slightly further afield. There is a regular train service from Stonegate (4 miles) to London
